All of us could use some encouragement and guidance from someone else once in awhile. There is an interesting story in the Old Testament about such a relationship between two men who were servants of God. They were Elijah and Elisha. We can learn some important lessons about how we can benefit from a mentoring/disciple-making relationship in our lives.

When Jesus suffered and died on the cross, He showed us that we are sometimes called to suffer for our faith in God. However, when Jesus was resurrected back to life, He showed us that God is faithful. He will not forsake us in our time of hardship or suffering, but He will give us victory, when we live by faith.
America’s families have gone through many changes. Some of them have weakened the family and caused damage to their children. There is hope for improving family life, if we turn to God’s plan. I will share with you three principles from the Bible that will help you train your children and strengthen your family.
Today, there are people who consider themselves more enlightened than the average person and they want the church to change the message of Christ to include their false religious philosophies, such as Eastern mysticism or New Age ideas or cult worship. And, there are those people who want to change the message of Christ so that it condones their immoral behaviors or so that it supports their political or social agendas. Their message did not come from God. It lacks God’s power; it is full of weak, human thinking. It does not lead people to God. Instead, we must seek God’s wisdom that is primarily revealed in the cross of Jesus Christ. We must believe the true message of Christ that is revealed in the Bible. It is reliable and full of God’s power to transform your life into pure spiritual beauty.

Throughout life, we pass through only a few life-changing thresholds. They are points in life where we must make a decision, followed by a commitment. The decision to step through that threshold affects our lives from then on. Each threshold has potential risks, but we decide to walk through the doorways and take the risks because the potential benefits outweigh the risks. In today’s text, we can see the challenge, the alternatives, and the people’s response.
We must be careful not to judge our congregation or any other church by outward circumstances. We must not use man’s standards to measure Christ’s church. I don’t want anyone thinking that New Horizons is inferior or superior to any other church. Certainly, we are different, but God has not called us nor enabled us to be like other churches. We are distinctly different, as I believe we should be. Here are some of our strong points.
The Bible clearly teaches that there is a connection between Jesus’ resurrection and our own, someday. Let’s review three events, as described in this passage, that will happen in quick succession at the end of time.
I want to help families who are struggling with their finances. I can do that by sharing some practical advice from the Bible about money management. Take responsibility for your finances and consciously commit yourself to managing your money wisely with God’s wisdom and guidance. This advice was recorded by King Solomon more than 3,000 years ago, but the financial principles that Solomon teaches us in the book of Proverbs work as well today as they did when he wrote them.
